President & Founder / Writer, Photographer and Marketing Director
As a native of western North Carolina, Tina spent her formative years following in her grandfather’s footsteps in search of undiscovered ecosystems hidden in the Great Smokies. This same spirit of wonder and curiosity followed Tina into adulthood. She studied Social Work and Women’s Studies at Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, then dedicated a year of service to Americorps. Much later, Tina completed a Master of Liberal Arts degree at the University of North Carolina-Asheville. Her graduate research approached the complexity of the global food system and its relationship to poverty by weaving together an investigation into sustainable community food systems with environmental, social and economic implications. Currently, Tina owns SOFIOL Press and also serves as project coordinator for Buy Haywood. In addition to photography, Tina is passionate about local food and supporting sustainable agriculture. When not tending her organic French-style Potager, Tina still enjoys chasing the wild places from her childhood while hiking with her husband and three daughters.
Tina has extensive experience working in print, public forum, film, and radio media.
